Scottie Scheffler: Inside Golf’s World No. 1 Career

Introduction

Scottie Scheffler has become one of the biggest names in professional golf.

The numbers explain why.

By September 2026, the American golfer had collected 22 PGA Tour victories, four major championships, an Olympic gold medal and two FedExCup titles. He also remained World No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

That rise happened quickly.

Who Is Scottie Scheffler?

Scottie Scheffler is an American professional golfer known for elite ball striking, strong iron play and remarkable consistency.

His career changed dramatically in 2022.

Before that year, he had no PGA Tour victories. Then he won four times in a matter of weeks, reached World No. 1 and claimed the Masters.

Things moved fast.

He later won another Masters, the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.

As of September 2026, the U.S. Open is the only major championship missing from his career Grand Slam collection.

Early Life

Scheffler was born on 21 June 1996 in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

His parents are Scott and Diane Scheffler.

He grew up with three sisters: Callie, Sara and Molly.

The family later moved to the Dallas area in Texas. Golf soon became a serious part of his life.

He began working with respected coach Randy Smith while still young.

That relationship lasted.

Smith remained part of his team as Scheffler moved from junior golf to college competition and then into the professional game.

A Strong Junior Golf Career

His talent showed early.

While attending Highland Park High School, Scheffler became one of the best young golfers in Texas.

He won individual state golf championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Then came a bigger win.

In 2013, at age 17, he captured the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

He defeated Davis Riley in the 36-hole final.

That title placed his name among the top young American golfers of his generation.

College Years at Texas

Scheffler attended the University of Texas at Austin and played for the Texas Longhorns.

His freshman season immediately stood out.

He won the individual title at the 2015 Big 12 Championship and received the Phil Mickelson Award as the nation’s leading freshman golfer.

He also earned multiple All-America honours during his college career.

Golf was not his only focus.

He studied finance and completed his university education before moving fully into professional competition.

While still an amateur, he produced an impressive result at the 2017 U.S. Open.

He finished tied for 27th and earned low-amateur honours.

That performance gave golf fans an early look at what was coming.

Walker Cup Experience

Scheffler represented the United States in the 2017 Walker Cup.

The American team won the event at Los Angeles Country Club.

It was another important step before professional golf.

Soon after finishing college, he was ready for the next stage.

Turning Professional

Scheffler turned professional in 2018.

His early path went through the Korn Ferry Tour.

The breakthrough came during the 2019 season.

He won the Evans Scholars Invitational and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.

His results earned him PGA Tour membership.

He was also named both Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Pretty strong start.

PGA Tour Rookie of the Year

Scheffler adapted quickly to the PGA Tour.

During his rookie season, he recorded several top finishes and showed that he could compete against established players.

One round gained a lot of attention.

At the 2020 Northern Trust, he shot a 12-under-par 59 at TPC Boston.

Scores below 60 are rare at PGA Tour level.

His rookie campaign earned him the 2020 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award.

Still, his first Tour victory had not arrived.

That changed in 2022.

The 2022 Breakthrough

February 2022 changed everything.

Scheffler won the WM Phoenix Open, beating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff.

It was his first PGA Tour title.

He did not slow down.

He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then captured the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

That third victory sent him to World No. 1.

Just weeks later, he reached Augusta National.

And won again.

First Masters Title

Scheffler won the 2022 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

He finished at 10-under par and beat Rory McIlroy by three shots.

It was his first major championship.

The timing was remarkable.

He had gone from having no PGA Tour wins to owning four victories, the world No. 1 ranking and a green jacket in only a short period.

His fellow players later voted him PGA Tour Player of the Year.

Continued Success in 2023

The wins continued.

Scheffler successfully defended the WM Phoenix Open in February 2023.

A month later, he won THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Consistency became one of his biggest strengths.

He regularly placed near the top of leaderboards, even during weeks when he did not win.

He earned PGA Tour Player of the Year honours again.

A Huge 2024 Season

The 2024 season became one of the strongest runs of his career.

Scheffler won seven official PGA Tour tournaments:

• Arnold Palmer Invitational
• THE PLAYERS Championship
• Masters Tournament
• RBC Heritage
• Memorial Tournament
• Travelers Championship
• TOUR Championship

His victory at THE PLAYERS made him the first golfer to successfully defend that title.

Then came Augusta.

Second Masters Victory

Scheffler claimed his second green jacket at the 2024 Masters Tournament.

He finished four shots ahead of Ludvig Åberg.

That gave him two Masters wins in three years.

Augusta had clearly become a special venue for him.

Olympic Gold in Paris

His 2024 success stretched beyond the PGA Tour.

Scheffler represented the United States at the Paris Olympic Games.

He produced a brilliant closing round of 62 at Le Golf National and won the men’s individual gold medal.

He beat Tommy Fleetwood by one stroke.

The Olympic victory does not count toward his official PGA Tour win total, but it remains one of the biggest achievements on his record.

First FedExCup Title

Scheffler finished 2024 by winning the TOUR Championship.

That victory secured his first FedExCup championship.

He ended the year with seven PGA Tour victories plus Olympic gold.

He was voted PGA Tour Player of the Year for a third straight season.

More Major Wins in 2025

His winning run continued into 2025.

Scheffler collected six PGA Tour titles during the season.

Two were majors.

He won the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, finishing five shots ahead of the nearest challengers.

That was major title No. 3.

Then he headed to Royal Portrush.

The Open Championship Victory

Scheffler won The Open Championship in 2025 at Royal Portrush.

He finished at 17 under par.

That victory gave him four major championships:

• Masters — 2022
• Masters — 2024
• PGA Championship — 2025
• The Open Championship — 2025

The U.S. Open remained the missing piece.

He had already finished runner-up there in 2022.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2026 Season

Scheffler remained at the top of men’s golf in 2026.

He won The American Express, which became his 20th PGA Tour victory.

He later captured the FedEx St. Jude Championship for win No. 21.

Then came another major achievement.

He won the 2026 TOUR Championship, taking his career PGA Tour total to 22 victories and securing his second FedExCup title.

His 2026 major results were also strong.

He finished second at the Masters, tied fourth at the U.S. Open and tied fourth at The Open.

By September 2026, he remained World No. 1.

Major Championship Record

Championship	Best Result
Masters Tournament	Winner — 2022, 2024
PGA Championship	Winner — 2025
U.S. Open	Runner-up — 2022
The Open Championship	Winner — 2025

He has four major titles.

One more specific win would complete the career Grand Slam: the U.S. Open.

PGA Tour Wins by Season

His official PGA Tour victory count through September 2026 stands at 22.

Season	Wins
2021–22	4
2022–23	2
2024	7
2025	6
2026	3
Total	22

His Olympic gold medal is counted separately.

Playing Style

Scheffler’s ball striking is one of his biggest strengths.

His iron play is especially sharp.

He regularly ranks near the top of PGA Tour statistics for strokes gained from tee to green and on approach shots.

His swing also looks unusual.

Watch his feet.

His trail foot often slides during the downswing and through impact.

It does not look textbook.

But it works.

His balance, timing and contact remain highly repeatable, which helps explain his steady results.

Caddie Ted Scott

Veteran caddie Ted Scott joined Scheffler’s team late in 2021.

Scott had previously spent years working with Bubba Watson and was on the bag for Watson’s two Masters victories.

The timing of the new partnership was striking.

Scheffler’s first PGA Tour victory came only a few months later.

Since then, the pair have shared dozens of major tournament moments, including multiple major wins and a long run at World No. 1.

Wife Meredith Scheffler

Scheffler is married to Meredith Scheffler, formerly Meredith Scudder.

They knew each other during their school years in Texas.

Scottie later attended the University of Texas, while Meredith studied at Texas A&M.

They married in December 2020.

Meredith has regularly been seen supporting him at major tournaments and PGA Tour events.

Scottie Scheffler’s Children

Scottie and Meredith have two sons.

Their first son, Bennett, was born in May 2024.

Their second son, Remy, arrived in 2026.

Scheffler has spoken publicly about the importance of family life while continuing to compete at the highest level of golf.

Career Earnings

Scheffler’s official PGA Tour career earnings reached $130,390,661 after the 2026 TOUR Championship.

That figure refers to official PGA Tour prize money.

It is not the same thing as personal net worth.

Taxes, expenses, caddie payments, sponsorship income and investments all affect personal finances, so online net-worth estimates should not be treated as confirmed figures.

Awards and Major Honours

Scheffler’s public record includes:

• Four major championships
• Olympic gold medal in 2024
• FedExCup champion in 2024 and 2026
• 22 PGA Tour victories through September 2026
• PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025
• PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2020
• Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year in 2019
• Korn Ferry Tour Rookie of the Year in 2019
• World No. 1 ranking

It is a long list.

And he is still 30.

Final Thought

Scottie Scheffler’s career moved from promising to historic very quickly.

His first PGA Tour win came in 2022. By September 2026, he had 22 Tour victories, four majors, Olympic gold and two FedExCup championships.

The impressive part is consistency.

He wins big events. He also stays near the top when he does not win.

Right now, the U.S. Open remains the biggest major trophy missing from his record.

If that arrives, he would complete golf’s career Grand Slam.
